Sixty-Fourth Annual National Exhibition of American Paintings and Photography Prospectus

The Society of the Four Arts, a non-profit organization, was founded in 1936 by a prominent group of Palm Beach residents to meet the cultural needs of the growing resort community. Its objective is to encourage an appreciation of art, music, drama and literature through the presentation of notable exhibitions, concerts, lectures, films and the maintenance of a library.

The original building on Four Arts Plaza by architect Maurice Fatio now houses The Gioconda and Joseph King Four Arts Library. The Gallery building designed by architect Addison Mizner was modernized and now contains galleries and an auditorium to accommodate art exhibitions, concerts, lectures and films. The building, now the Esther B. O'Keeffe Gallery Building, is open from December through mid-April.

The lovely horticulture gardens adjoining the library and the Philip Hulitar Sculpture Garden, as well as gifts of sculpture seen on the surrounding grounds, provide beauty and enjoyment for members and visitors to the lakeside complex.

The Four Arts Gardens which are maintained by The Garden Club of Palm Beach are demonstration gardens designed in 1938, to display the diversity of tropical plants suitable for landscaping in the south Florida climate.

How to visit The Four Arts by car: From Interstate-95, take Okeechobee Boulevard east exit (52A) toward Palm Beach. The Society of the Four Arts is located in Palm Beach on Four Arts Plaza, the first left off Royal Palm Way (an extension of Okeechobee Boulevard over the Intracoastal Waterway).
