World Trade Center Memorial Competition 2003, Vertical Gardens - a Forest of Remembrance 1 - Trees and Foliage from 92 countries of the victims nationalities flourish within tall steel grids, a ticker tape honoring its heroes - the names of the victims are engraved on special glazing running along in a single line

2 - Vertical Gardens are symbols of life,
creating personal passages of hope, strength, courage and remembrance. At each engraved name, a place for a votive candle is provided for private contemplation.

3 - Within the Forest of Remembrance families can reserve a specific area of passageway to make it their own contemplative garden for a visit. The area would be cordoned off with temporary movable barriers.

4 - A Sacred Lawn, perfectly preserved, quiet green, a home for the unidentified remains.

5 - Vertical Gardens respect- fully mark the footprints of each WTC Tower, within which living walls of green and public circulation are constant sources of live.

6 - Ticker Tape Square
and the Grand Stairs: Public celebrations, ceremonies and spontaneous gatherings are encouraged in these interrelated areas.
